Mauricio Gutierrez NRG CEO

Mauricio Gutierrez is President and CEO of NRG, the nation's largest competitive power generator. Mauricio leads the power provider and its integrated portfolio of wholesale generation, including one of the country's largest renewable energy portfolios, as well as retail energy, serving nearly 3 million retail customers.

Mauricio joined NRG in 2004. Prior to becoming President and CEO, he held the role of COO where he was responsible for NRG's operations across the company—ensuring the highest levels of safety, performance and sustainability. Mauricio also oversaw commodities trading as EVP, Commercial Operations and SVP, Commodities Trading, where he developed a long track record of helping maximize NRG's financial performance amid volatile energy commodity markets.

Mauricio has served on multiple boards in the U.S. and Mexico. He holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the Universidad Panamericana and two master's degrees, one in mineral economics from the Colorado School of Mines and one in petroleum economics from the French Petroleum Institute.

Energy powers commerce and innovation, education and healthcare, and so many other functions of our society. It even powers the instant gratification we all feel when flipping on a light switch. But, the challenge we all face is discovering the true potential of energy.

At NRG, we think the true potential of energy has barely been tapped. So, in 2016, we set out to define for ourselves, for our consumers and for the industry, what that potential could be. Then, our talented team got to work bringing it to life.
